An intricately hand-carved water buffalo bone piece featuring a mermaid nestled within the body of a fish. Her flowing hair, detailed scales and sweeping tail are carved in raised relief, with openwork sections adding depth and dimension. The surrounding fish shape completes the ocean-inspired design, including carved fins, head and tail.
This is not a flatback carving. The mermaid is noticeably raised and sculptural, especially through her face, torso, arms and tail.
